My first ever girls-only trip! Cherry had been asking me for a long time to write a travel guide, so I really did my homework this time. I searched online, checked Baidu and Sohu, asked friends everywhere, and finally managed to gather some useful insights. I've summarized it all here, hoping it can serve as a reference for friends planning a trip to Lugu Lake!

Also, my strategy writing isn't great... please forgive me! After all, it's my first time writing one.

Travelers: Me, Cherry, Yaoyao

Self-Made Guide

Day 1: (Departure time set for 20:05)

Take train K9470/K9471, a fast train from Chengdu to Xichang. Departs at 20:05, arrives the next day at 06:19. Total travel time: 10 hours 14 minutes, distance: 557 km. Fares: Hard seat ¥79, Hard sleeper (lower berth) ¥149, Soft sleeper (lower berth) ¥224.

I'd actually recommend the Hard Sleeper (lower berth) for ¥149. A friend advised this because around 3:00 AM, there are stops where many people get on and off, and there can be a lot of pickpockets. Hard seats aren't very safe and are also very tiring. So, I suggest the Hard Sleeper at ¥149! This is just my advice, the final decision is yours! Haha!

Day 2: (Arrive at 06:19)

Once we arrived at 06:19, we took a taxi from Xichang Train Station to Xichang Long-Distance Bus Center to catch the 7:00 AM bus to Lugu Lake. (There are only two buses to Lugu Lake each day, usually between 7:00 AM and 8:00 AM). The journey takes about 7-8 hours, and the fare is ¥75-80.

The bus only goes as far as Lugu Lake Town (formerly Zuosuo). The lakeshore is still 3-4 kilometers away, about a 30-minute walk. If we're staying at a guesthouse by the lake, they can send a car to pick us up. A friend gave me a QQ number and phone number for this! We stayed at a guesthouse near Caohai (Grass Sea). We could even use our netbook to access the internet there! Plus, it's cheaper than the Yunnan side. Accommodation near Caohai costs around ¥40-60.

The entrance fee for Lugu Lake is ¥80. If you can borrow a student ID card, you can get a 50% discount.

Departing from Xichang, we arrived at Lugu Lake around 3:00-4:00 PM. The first day was mostly about checking into our accommodation, taking a stroll around Caohai, or perhaps joining the evening bonfire party (cost: ¥15 per person). However, don't eat their local chicken or grilled meats – they're expensive and not tasty. Also, do not drink alcohol with the local Mosuo people! They might misunderstand and think you're interested in "walking marriages" (a traditional Mosuo practice)... and the consequences could be quite awkward... haha... Don't get any ideas; we didn't try it, but we witnessed it!

Day 3: (Important: Arrange the chartered car with the driver the evening of Day 2)

Wake up at 7:00 AM to watch the sunrise and take photos. Have breakfast around 9:00 AM, then go boating for ¥80 per person. (This boat trip goes from the Sichuan side of Lugu Lake to the Yunnan side. There's a small island halfway where the boat stops for you to enjoy the scenery. The trip takes about 2 hours.) Once we arrive on the Yunnan side, we'll have lunch there. To save money, you can eat their rice noodles (米粉, mi fěn). They're not expensive. Then, take the chartered car back from the Yunnan side to the Sichuan side of Lugu Lake (this is a lake-looping tour, which offers the most comfortable scenery. You can ask the driver to stop for photos along the way. There are famous spots, and the driver will usually ask if we need to stop). The chartered car was arranged to pick us up. Generally, ask your guesthouse owner for the driver's phone number. A round trip costs ¥150, a one-way trip my friend once negotiated down to ¥120. Remember the spots you like; on Day 4, you'll come back here specifically for photos. Return to Caohai, take another walk, and enjoy the scenery.

(Note: They had been there before, so they had experience. The boat trip to the Yunnan side is manually rowed, ¥80 per person for 2 hours. You enjoy the scenery along the way and feel the nature. Taking the boat back isn't necessary, and it's still ¥80 per person! So, you need to discuss this with your guesthouse owner the night before and get the chartered car's phone number. The driver will pick us up directly on the Yunnan side of Lugu Lake. The ¥120-150 range is the chartered car price. You can split the cost, which is more economical.)

Day 4 & Day 5: (Go back to the scenic spots you liked during the Day 3 lake-looping tour for photos)

Wake up, have breakfast, then rent bicycles (usually ¥40 for the whole day, but you can bargain it down to about ¥20). We can cycle along the road to the places we liked the day before. Take photos! The roads on the Sichuan side are excellent, all asphalt. The Yunnan side has more gravel roads. We'll visit some smaller scenic spots. In the evening, we can ask the guesthouse owner to arrange a ferry (a simple crossing boat).

Honestly, these two days are mostly for taking photos and soaking in nature!

Day 6: (Return to Xichang via the same route)

Depart from Lugu Lake in the morning. Once we arrive in Xichang, buy a ticket for train K9440 (this train is cheaper, Hard Sleeper is only ¥80) back to Chengdu. It arrives at Chengdu South Station the next day at 06:21. And the trip is over!

Alright! Enough talk, let's start with the photos!

Then we'll share our video... Please forgive the quality, we were a bit out of sorts!

This is my first time posting on Mafengwo, so I'm not sure if this video will display properly...

On the journey from Xichang to Lugu Lake, we experienced a car breakdown, a flat tire, and had to change vehicles four times...

We didn't arrive at our destination until the evening... That's why the beginning of the video is so bumpy, I had to fast-forward it.

Finally, here are our photos!

Alright, time to wrap up. This is my first post, so please show some support!

Its picturesque scenery, the unique matrilineal customs of the Mosuo people, the "Noah's Ark" of Christianity, and the morning bells and evening drums of Tibetan Buddhism all draw the attention of countless tourists to this mysterious land. Lugu Lake has 18 natural villages. Those with accommodation capacity include Luoshui Village, Lige Village, and Nisai Village on the Yunnan side, and Lugu Lake Town and Wuzhiluo on the Sichuan side. Tourists arriving in Lugu Lake from Lijiang on the same day can only stay in Luoshui, Lige, or Nisai villages. We started our journey from Chengdu...
