Fearless Hearts, Wrangler Wheels: Becoming the Heroine of Your Own Life with Your Bestie

Fearless Hearts, Wrangler Wheels: Becoming the Heroine of Your Own Life with Your Bestie
"May you have dreams as your steed, and find rest wherever you go."
This is a quote I've always loved. As an ordinary girl approaching thirty, I've worked as a hotel HR, a part-time photographer, and now I'm a content creator. Along the way, I've received plenty of encouragement, but also heard my fair share of doubt and harsh comments. But I've always believed: The most exciting thing about life is that you don't have to be defined. You can be gentle, you can be bold. You can be a corporate high-flyer or a stay-at-home mom. You can cruise through city neon in a coupe, or hit the open road in an off-roader with your best friend by your side.
Earlier this year, I made a bold decision — I became a Jeep Wrangler owner. Someone asked me, "A girl driving a car this big?" I said, "A woman's definition has never been limited to just one adjective like 'pretty.' Independence, confidence, courage, self-love — these are the real sources of brilliance. With my hands on the wheel, steering my own life, driving a Wrangler — I'm the heroine of my own story!"
Not long ago, I was fortunate enough to be selected by Jeep to join the 6-day Camp Jeep Girls' Trip — the Sichuan-Yunnan Route. I dragged my best friend Yiyun along, and together with 20 Jeep women owners I'd never met before, we crossed mountains, rivers, and lakes, unlocking the magic of this incredible route. Over 1,600 kilometers — it was an exploration, and a challenge. Today, let me take you on an immersive virtual tour of this unforgettable journey with my bestie.
Girl Gang Assembles | WoMen Take Off — A Feast of Hotpot and Gifts
As a Chengdu native, attending my first group event with so many amazing women right in my own hometown was an indescribable thrill.
At 6:00 PM, I arrived on time at the Chengdu First Mansion Hotel. The moment I walked into the lobby, I was spotted by an enthusiastic photographer — from check-in to room registration, she captured so many beautiful moments for me. Girls from Sichuan and Chongqing have natural charisma and confidence, and I couldn't agree more. After a quick introduction, I headed to my room to freshen up, then gathered with the group for hotpot.

It happened to be March 8th — Women's Day — and the Jeep team had decorated the hotpot restaurant with warmth and atmosphere. In Chengdu, eating hotpot is all about the vibe — beautifully presented dishes, authentic flavors. Seeing a table full of my favorite dishes made my mouth water. More importantly, I finally got to see my bestie Yiyun again! Our last reunion was during a trip to Sanya last year. It had been so long, and we spent the whole dinner catching up.
The highlight of the evening was the gift exchange. I prepared a panda-themed gift set: a cup, a bracelet, a plush toy, a keychain, and an incredibly cute panda fridge magnet. I thought to myself, "Whoever gets this is in for a treat!" As it turned out, JC from our team drew my panda gift pack and was practically rubbing her hands with joy. When my turn came, I got a highlighter from Wan Yun — and immediately put it on. This little gift also laid the foundation for the friendship we'd share over the coming days.
Before dinner ended, everyone shared a Women's Day message. I said: "May every girl become her own sun, needing no one else's light." I hadn't planned it — I just wanted to say it to myself, and to every woman in the room.
Cuteness Overload | A Close Encounter at the Panda Base
The next day, we headed to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. When we gathered in the parking lot, everyone hopped into their assigned Jeep Wranglers — we got a wine-red one, and it was super cool.
Panda Base Practical Guide
- Tickets: Book via the "Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding" WeChat official account. Full price is 55 yuan, students/Sichuan-Chongqing residents pay 27 yuan. Bring your ID — you scan it to enter.
- Entry Advice: If you want to avoid queues, enter through the West Gate. Go in the morning! Fewer people, more pandas. If you're not fixated on seeing "Hua Hua," the West Gate is your best bet.

Route: West Gate Station → Adventure Valley Station → Giant Panda Star Cub Station → Panda Tower Station → Giant Panda Villa 1 Station → Giant Panda Sun Cub Station → South Gate Station. If you don't stop at the West Gate, you can exit directly from the South Gate.

Twenty of us "big kids" got to hang out with giant pandas up close — the joy was indescribable. Walking through the commercial street, panda motifs were everywhere: a panda mahjong set missing a tile, panda cream buns, panda souvenirs big and small. We all wore panda headbands, having the time of our lives.
The most famous panda here is "Hua Hua." If you want to see her, queue up early in the morning — but you only get 3 minutes, and catching her face-on is pure luck. Since we weren't specifically after Hua Hua, we saw every other panda. The base is divided into a new area and an old area, and we visited both. Our guide handed out audio devices to everyone, and listening to the guide's explanations, we realized how many stories these little cuties have to tell.
That day, we visited Shanyue Pavilion, Qiuyue Pavilion, Wangyue Pavilion, Yunyue Pavilion, Mingyue Pavilion, Jiangyue Pavilion, Lanyue Pavilion, Villa 1, Villa 2, Moon Cub Pavilion, and more — covering about three-quarters of the park. We saw 23 pandas, and even spotted a baby cub in the Moon Cub Pavilion. No wonder they're national treasures — their adorable, clumsy charm is irresistible.
Reluctantly leaving the panda base, we headed to Chengdu's urban center — IFS — for a panda-themed afternoon tea.
Urban Epicenter | Panda Afternoon Tea Sweeter Than First Love
It wasn't my first time at the top of IFS in Chunxi Road to see that giant panda sculpture, but it was my first time doing it with 20 women from different cities.
I highly recommend the 5:59 Brunch & Cafe on the rooftop. The panda-themed afternoon tea was too cute — every dessert was delicious, sweeter than first love, no exaggeration. And here's an unexpected surprise: the usual photo spot with long queues offers a totally different perspective here! I discovered a new angle for a photo with the iconic panda. The panda's side profile was just as photogenic. Perfect shots — another day of blowing up my friends' feeds.
There were also plenty of panda souvenirs available for purchase — or for photo props. I definitely chose the latter. This café was so thoughtful; the afternoon tea was totally worth it.
Kilometer Zero | Hardcore Check-In at the Sichuan-Tibet Base Camp
That evening, we checked into the Hilton Yaan and enjoyed a local specialty — Yaan fish hotpot. Day one ended perfectly.

The next day, we set off from Yaan to Xichang. Along the way, we passed Yaan 318 · Sichuan-Tibet Highway Zero-Kilometer Self-Drive Base Camp — a must-stop on National Highway 318, popular among off-road enthusiasts. The circular gate features tire elements, symbolizing the road trip theme, and also resembles the number "0." It pays homage to Yaan's history as the starting point of the Sichuan-Tibet Highway. The tires are orange, representing light, joy, sweetness, vitality, and warmth — welcoming travelers from all over to feel Yaan's energy.
This photo is my favorite from the entire trip — every woman looks so cool! True to Wrangler owners — beautiful, strong, individual. In this group, they were exceptionally hardcore.
Soul Cleansing | Hot Springs and Heart-to-Hearts at the Mountain Peak
The drive from Yaan to Xichang took about four hours. Along the way, we sang, laughed, and talked about freedom and life. Traveling with like-minded women brings a joy that words can't capture.
I learned that Jeep owners have their own hand signal — every time we saw a fellow driver pass by, we'd flash the Jeep Wave greeting. It's true: girls who love travel and off-roading are cool, stylish, and beautiful.
We stopped and started, and soon arrived at our first destination — Yueji Valley (Moon Season Valley). "Wow —" I couldn't help but exclaim. I had no idea Xichang had such a niche off-road route — it was stunning. Backed by Lugu Lake, we raced along unpaved roads, soaking in the vast natural scenery. Rows of Jeeps sped through the wind and dust, with grasslands, mountains, and lakes unfolding before us. One word: incredible.
We had lunch at Yang's Family Fish Restaurant, famous in Xichang. As a Chengdu girl, I couldn't skip the fish mint (houttuynia cordata). Several friends from other cities tried the cold fish mint salad at my encouragement — some said they could handle it but not too much, others spat it out after one bite. But at least they had the courage to try.
After dinner, we headed to Xichang Zhongxin Haosheng Hot Spring Hotel. Before soaking in the hot springs, we received a task card: share your most memorable travel experience. For me, it was easy — my most unforgettable trip was in the month the pandemic hit, when I was among the last group of tourists to return from Japan. I'd spent 15 days in Japan, visiting Tohoku and Hokkaido. The snow there was so romantic it felt unreal. The day after I got back, everything shut down. So when the question came up, that trip immediately came to mind.
After a full day of driving, everyone was pretty tired. Soaking in the hot springs was the perfect way to unwind before heading back to bed.
Slow Luxury | Goddesses Arrive at Goddess Bay
On the Way to Lugu Lake
On day three, we took the national highway to Lugu Lake. Crossing mountain after mountain, the most breathtaking sight was the Jinsha River (Golden Sand River) — so beautiful it left us speechless. I'd never seen such a vast expanse of blue-green water. The mountains on both banks were heavily eroded, shimmering like golden mountains under the sunlight. The sparkling blue-green river wound through the golden peaks for dozens of kilometers — a beauty beyond words. Since I was shooting from the car and couldn't stop, I had to keep the scenery in my heart.
Dazu Pier
Heavenly fairy lake above, Lugu Lake below. Facing the Gemu Goddess Mountain, living by the lake, with lush pine forests at your back. Surrounded by clouds and mountains, we felt the vast blue of Lugu Lake. Unfortunately, we only made a brief stop — otherwise, I could have taken a hundred photos here.
At Dazu Pier, you can take a pig trough boat (a traditional wooden canoe) for just 30 yuan to a small uninhabited island in the lake's center, getting up close to Lugu Lake's waters. Great value — the round trip takes about an hour. Lover's Beach and Luoshui Village have lots of seagulls, perfect for photos and interactions.
Moonlight Sea Peninsula Garden Campground

From Xichang to Lugu Lake, the road was mostly winding mountain passes. After a short stop at Dazu Pier, we headed to Moonlight Sea Peninsula Garden Campground. Seeing the unpaved road, I knew we were in the right place. This is a little-known campground near Lugu Lake, facing Goddess Mountain. The entire site was ours — just the Jeep team. The scenery was like a painting.
I'd assumed this would be a well-equipped camping base, but I was in for a surprise — it was time to test the girls. Who says women are delicate? Not in this group. Every goddess turned into a tomboy, from unpacking to setting up tents, doing it all themselves. Many hands make light work — with everyone pitching in, we set up the Jeep-branded canopy. The campground owner kindly provided barbecue ingredients for the evening. It was tiring, but so much fun.
With the sunset, music playing, we partied at the camp with our sisters. The campground owner said the site is still under development — in the future, along the 1,000-meter peninsula shoreline, there will be lakeside camping music festivals, off-road fishing competitions, ethnic modern fashion shows, and a 500-meter long-table feast by the flower-lined lake. Something to look forward to.
My First Time Taking the Roof Off
I'd been driving my Jeep for a while, but this was my first time removing the roof. Encouraged by everyone, I actually completed this "daunting" task on my own. Turns out, I'm a hidden tomboy too. Amidst the laughter and singing, the camping atmosphere reached its peak. As the sunset glowed, I put on a pretty dress and let my imagination run free by the lake — pure bliss.
Before the barbecue, we took a beautiful group photo. Every woman looked amazing, full of personality. We ate and drank, chatting from sunset into the night, until the sky filled with stars — absolutely stunning. The stars made the Wranglers stand out even more. I couldn't resist sitting on the roof, just staring and thinking.
Lugu Lake Travel Guide
As a travel enthusiast, I can't help but share some tips for Lugu Lake. One day was a bit rushed for us, so if you have more time, here's what I recommend:
- Lige Village (★★★★☆): You can see the heart-shaped Lugu Lake here. The observation deck offers a panoramic view, perfect for capturing the iconic postcard shot.
- Grass Sea & Walking Marriage Bridge (★★★★☆): The lake water shifts from blue to green to yellow, rich in layers. Drifting reeds are the highlight, with pig trough boats scattered among them. You can spot wild ducks and waterbirds. The Walking Marriage Bridge spans the Grass Sea — legend has it that Mosuo people used this path for their traditional "walking marriage" courtship.
- Goddess Bay (★★★★★): A quieter bay, accessible via a steep slope and a short walk. When sunlight hits, the lake sparkles like diamonds. At sunset, a few pig trough boats drift lazily in the orange sky — beauty elevated to another level.
- Other Recommendations (★★★☆☆): Daluoshui Village (developed earlier, convenient for food and accommodation, with Mosuo bonfire parties), Xiaoluoshui Village (quieter and more primitive, with the ancient Dabei Hailuo Sutra Temple), and Lover's Beach (one in Yunnan, one in Sichuan — Yunnan's features the iconic lover's tree, Sichuan's has more beautiful lake views and free photo ops with old pig trough boats).
Lugu Lake, I will definitely be back.
Strolling Through the Ancient Town | A Different Kind of Folk Fashion
After a brief day at Lugu Lake, we headed to Lijiang Old Town. This was my third visit to the old town, and each time brought a different mood and experience. This time, the team's task was: go to the old town and pick out some folk-style accessories to pair with the custom Jeep T-shirts.
This was no challenge for Yiyun and me. As fashionistas, we hit the old town and started shopping: earrings, headscarves, and the essential camisole to layer under the T-shirt — when we stepped out, we looked effortlessly stylish.
After our shopping spree, we wandered through the old town. Lijiang is beautiful this season. We checked out several popular photo spots. As the sunset glow spread, we snapped photos. Blue skies, white clouds, ancient walls and tiles, traces of history, bustling streets — the sense of ease and relaxation was palpable. I could imagine spending a day or two here, just zoning out and enjoying the slow life.
As a UNESCO World Heritage site, Lijiang Old Town has so much to marvel at: the wooden architecture of Mu's Residence, Naxi ancient music, and the pictographic Dongba script. Come to Lijiang, and find yourself.
Blooming Beauty | A Photoshoot by Erhai Lake

Day five was all about one thing — a big photoshoot. I have to say, the organizers knew exactly where to take us. The cliffside restaurant by Erhai Lake was incredibly unique — it felt like being on vacation in California.
The venue had both indoor and outdoor areas, each with its own charm. The indoor dining room offered a 180-degree view of the vast lake, with snow-capped mountains in the background. The vintage bar had a Western romantic vibe. Gazing at the mountains meeting the sea, with cliffs above, the romance factor hit 100%. Besides coffee, afternoon tea, and dinner, they also offered accommodation — perfect for enjoying the sunset and escaping the city's noise.
T-Shirt Styling Inspiration Show
The main event of the day was showing off our T-shirt styling ideas.
Our trio drew inspiration from Lijiang's folk style, styling the T-shirts in three different ways, all with a sweet, feminine touch. Beyond our group, the other women's styling was equally creative: some sewed tie-dye headbands onto their shirts, others went for a Bohemian rhapsody vibe, and one even looked like she'd just returned from a trip to Egypt. Everyone's creativity brought the T-shirt to life.
Then came the "battle of the looks" — time to shoot a series of stunning photos in our outfits. When the final images came out, I absolutely loved them. Another style, another version of myself. This Camp Jeep photoshoot experience was fantastic. I was genuinely impressed with myself.
Surprise Room Check and Personal Travel Essentials
The day ended quickly. Just as we were about to turn off the lights and sleep, the doorbell rang. Without thinking, we opened the door — and the organizers had staged a surprise room check. We had already removed our makeup and changed clothes, a huge contrast from our usual glamorous selves.
Q&A Session:
Question 1: Share a unique travel essential? My answer: A compact electric kettle. I bring it on every trip because I need hot water daily. It's a lifesaver in a pinch.
Question 2: Thank a bestie / share your thoughts? The 7-day, 6-night trip was drawing to a close. I want to especially thank my bestie Yiyun. These days together deepened our understanding of each other — how to help, care for, and support one another. Camp Jeep's event took our friendship to a new level. Thank you, Yiyun. Thank you, Camp Jeep.
Finally, we drifted off to sleep to the sound of waves.
Adventure in Bloom | Spring City Floral Art Secrets
Before we knew it, it was the last day of the trip. As everyone knows, Kunming is the "Spring City" and famous for its flowers. Even the airport has flower shops. So today, we first went to the flower market to pick our favorite blooms.
The scent of flowers wafted all the way to Mile Temple Park. A few creative buildings here, converted from former provincial government offices, house various studios, cafés, and craft workshops. Our flower arranging activity took place here.
Final Thoughts: Be the Heroine of Your Own Life
7 days, 6 nights on the Sichuan-Yunnan route. Over 1,600 kilometers. 20 Jeep women owners. Countless moments of laughter and emotion.
Looking back on this journey, my deepest feeling is this: Only with a fearless heart can you live the life you truly want. From Chengdu's hotpot to the panda base's cuteness, from Yaan's Sichuan-Tibet Zero Kilometer to Xichang's hot springs, from Lugu Lake's starry sky to Lijiang's ancient town, from Erhai Lake's cliffside restaurant to Kunming's floral art — every stop reaffirmed my belief: Life's brilliance lies in daring to set out, daring to try, and daring to be your undefined self.
If you, too, long for a spontaneous trip, if you want to roam the world with your bestie, then get behind the wheel. Fearless heart. Be the heroine of your own life. Remember: May every girl become her own sun, needing no one else's light.
May you have dreams as your steed, and find rest wherever you go.
